Florida mom arrested for acting as ‘lookout’ while 15-year-old son robbed store

Police have arrested a Florida woman for helping her 15-year-old son rob a convenience store.

Police arrested Amanda Chere Meador, 37, on Jan. 24 for riding in a getaway car after her son held up a Circle K store in Winter Springs, Florida, according to the Smoking Gun. Police charged Meador with armed robbery and child abuse.

Police say Meador acted as a lookout for her son and two other men who traveled to the store on Oct. 31 in a blue van with the license plate covered. Her son went into the store with a mask on, armed with a gun. The teenager passed a note demanding money to the cashier while threatening the store worker with the firearm.

The cashier gave money to the teenager, who then left the store and got back in the van. Meador then drove the vehicle away from the store.

Police investigating the robbery say they identified Meador’s son as the robber because he left the note demanding money at the store with his fingerprints on it. Cameras at the store caught Meador’s image after she stepped out of the van during the robbery.

“The defendant had knowledge that she was participating in an armed robbery, as a lookout,” the police report said. “The defendant provided aid and assistance to the perpetrator to escape arrest, detection, or punishment.”

Meador “did commit the offense of Child Neglect” by encouraging her son to commit the robbery, in which there was “reasonabl[e] danger of physical injury.”
