St. Lucie County, FL (July 16, 2019) – Habitat home dedications are special celebrations where Habitat families are welcomed home after completing their homeownership process. On July 9, 2019, Samuel, his wife Jata, and their five children celebrated with the many donors and volunteers who made this day possible.
Working alongside over 100 Women Build volunteers, the Alzimé-Moise family put in 300 hours of sweat equity work building their home. A common misconception of the Habitat program is that Habitat homeowners are 'given' a home. On the contrary, Habitat homeowners pay an affordable monthly mortgage, property taxes, and must save for their closing costs. In addition to helping build their home, Habitat homeowners are required to attend classes on budgeting and finances, foreclosure prevention, and home maintenance.
Since 1991, Habitat has hosted Women Build projects and invited women to help build affordable homes. Each year, we partner with Lowe's Home Improvement, who provides hands-on skill building workshops to prepare women for their Habitat volunteer experience.
This year, St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity, and All Things Treasure Coast, invited St. Lucie County women to channel their inner Rosie the Riveter by volunteering at the Habitat jobsite, fundraising, and participating in Empowering Women Workshops.
Sunrise Ford owners, Mary Jo Tierney and Mike Wetzel were this year's major sponsor of the 2019 Women Build home, and the Alzimé-Moise family is grateful for their generous support.
Also partnering with St. Lucie Habitat on building the home were the City of Port St. Lucie, Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Walmart Foundation, Peter W. Busch Family Foundation, A-1 Roof Trusses, Port St. Lucie Business Women, Pinder's Nursery, A Buyer's Choice Home Inspection, The Inner Truth Project, Southern Eagle Distributing, AR Workshop Port St. Lucie, Dow Decorating, and One Florida Foundation.
The Women Build project was a labor of love by so many caring individuals who want to help make our community a better place for us all.
