1 Killed, 1 Critically Hurt In Fatal Crash In Carol Stream

CAROL STREAM, IL — One person is dead after a fiery crash that took place in Carol Stream early Friday. The crash happened just before 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of North Avenue and Bennett Drive, according to a Facebook post from the Carol Stream Police Department.

Police say an Infiniti G37X was traveling westbound on North Avenue when it rear-ended a Freightliner box truck west of Bennett Drive. The Infiniti started on fire after the impact, according to police, but the fire was put out by a Carol Stream police officer who witnessed the crash.

The driver of the Infiniti was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Infiniti was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the box truck was not injured.

Police say they are not releasing the identity of the passenger and driver of the Infiniti at press time, pending family notification.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Carol Stream Police Department and the DuPage County Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigation Team (M.E.R.I.T.).
