Bahrain marks International Youth Day

Manama : Bahrain today joins the other nations of the world in celebrating the UN International Youth Day, which falls on August 12.

The 2016 International Youth Day is being held under the theme "The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production". 

The United Nations said this year’s day is about achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It focuses on the leading role of young people in ensuring poverty eradication and achieving sustainable development through sustainable consumption and production.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports held a big ceremony yesterday evening – Thursday - at the Youth City 2030 to mark the annual international event. 

The ceremony was attended by Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for International Affairs Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa and MPs Ghazi Al-Rahma and Hamad Salim Al-Dosari. 

Addressing the event, Minister of Youth and Sport Affairs Hesham Mohammed Al-Jowder hailed the landmark strides in these two vital sectors ever since His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa initiated the reform project. 

He conveyed greetings from HM the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa. 

He stressed the importance of the 2016 edition of the International Youth Day, held this year under the slogan: ""The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production".

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for International Affairs Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa hailed the youth initiatives in the prosperous era of HM the King, stressing the importance of this social section in building Bahrain’s future and achieving the 2030 Economic Vision.
