NBCUniversal, Inc.

A 71-year-old man died, and a 67-year-old woman is in critical condition Tuesday after a fire ignited late Monday in a Sunnyvale mobile home, according to the city's Department of Public Safety.

Fire crews responded to the blaze at about 9:50 p.m. Monday at the El Dorado Mobile Home Park in the 600 block of East Weddell Drive in Sunnyvale. Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames, the DPS said.

The woman was pulled from the flames, and life-saving measures were started. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition, the DPS said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told NBC Bay Area her son woke her up, and she went outside to see firefighters battling flames. Neighbors said they didn't hear much before firefighters arrived, and they wondered if the home had operating smoke detectors.

The blaze was contained to the one unit, and no other injuries were reported, the DPS said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Anyone with information about the blaze should contact Detective Scott McCulloch at 408-730-7119 or smcculloch@sunnyvale.ca.gov.
