Country Cascades Waterpark Resort in Pigeon Forge broke ground on a $30 million expansion.

More family fun — about $30 million worth — is coming to a Pigeon Forge waterpark.

Country Cascades Waterpark Resort broke ground Tuesday on a seven-story River Tower that will add 91 new rooms. There are two other towers at the park with a combined 231 rooms.

The waterpark expansion will complete a commitment made by its owners the Collier family to invest $50 million into their Smoky Mountain tourism businesses.

River Tower is expected to open in summer 2023.

The new tower will feature a mountain-themed grand lobby with a large stone fireplace, hot and grab-and-go food options, and mountain-themed rooms designed to sleep up to six guests.

Each room will have will have a dedicated space for kids with an in-room scavenger hunt that leads to a treasure chest.

The expansion also will reimagine the existing campus and give the outdoor waterpark a "fresh new look that is ready for fun."

A new family entertainment center will feature mini bowling, rock climbing, a VR arena and arcade. It will add activities like story time and pajama dance parties.

The resort is located at 204 Sharon Drive, just a block off Parkway in Pigeon Forge.
