Parks Open, Closed During COVID-19 In Twin Cities Metro: List

TWIN CITIES, MN — As the weather gets nicer, kids and families are becoming eager to get out and play at their local playground. However, making a trip to the park will require extra steps during the new coronavirus crisis.

Under Minnesota's Stay Home order, which is set it expire May 18, going to a playground is allowed. Physical, outdoor active is important to mental and physical health, and it is encouraged.

However, state officials say that families and guardians should make sure children wash their hands after touching play structures, and maintain six feet of space from other children "as much as possible."

Additionally, while the statewide Stay Home order doesn’t close playgrounds, many cities and local authorities have made the decision to close them.

Here's a list of cities and their related park decisions:

In Minneapolis, all recreation centers, playgrounds, courts, skate parks and athletic fields are closed until further notice.

Saint Paul has closed playgrounds, skate parks, the Highland Park disc golf course, and the city's sports court until further notice.

Apple Valley's park system remains open to the public

Burnsville parks, with some exceptions, are open. View a list here.

Eagan parks and playground structures currently remain open with social distancing. However, due to the new coronavirus crisis, facilities, shelters and picnic pavilions remain closed until further notice.

Maple Grove's community center and sports dome are closed until further notice.

Mendota Heights parks and trails are open. Playgrounds are closed until further notice.

Northfield parks and playgrounds are open.

Richfield: parks and playgrounds are open.

Rosemount: All city facilities are closed to the public

St. Louis Park parks are closed until further notice.

Stillwater: City parks except Teddy Bear Park are open, Restrooms, playgrounds, and tennis courts will remain closed until further notice. The Downtown Stillwater stairs are closed. Chillkoot Hill is open to pedestrians, closed for cars.

Woodbury parks and trails are open.
