‘America’s Most Wanted’ Fugitives Captured In Madrid Four Days After Episode Aired

Two fugitives recently featured America’s Most Wanted have been apprehended in Madrid, Spain, just four days after the FOX primetime series used 3-D graphics and age progression technology to speculate on how they’d look today.

On episode three of the new season, hosted by Elizabeth Vargas, criminal defense attorney and legal analyst Yodit Tewolde described the fugitives Alison Gracey and Christopher Jones. They’ve been wanted since the 2011 death of 36-year-old Aimee Rhoads during a scuba-diving expedition they led off the coast of Key Largo, Fla.

Tewolde said Jones, now 53, would appear to stand 5-foot-7 and 145 pounds. “Now she was born in Ireland, so she has an Irish accent, according to authorities,” Tewolde said. “And she’s typically been a blonde, but she has been on the run for so long, that she might have changed her look up a bit.” So they displayed her avatar with both blonde and darker colored hair. As for Jones, he’d now be 56, 6-foot-3, about 275. “He also speaks with an accent, but a British one.” Known to wear aviator glasses, they showed what he’d look like with them on, too.

On Dec. 18, 2011, Rhoads, her sister-in-law and four other passengers boarded a boat called the “Get Wet” in Key Largo for a scuba dive through a company called Scuba Shack. Gracey and Jones, both British citizens, owned Scuba Shack. But their boat capsized and sank in just about two minutes.

From AMW:

The captain noticed two passengers were unaccounted for and dove down and rescued one passenger who was trapped inside the boat, then dove down a second time to find Aimee pinned underwater. The captain pulled Aimee to the surface, but it was too late, she had drowned. An investigation revealed Gracey and Jones had been repeatedly informed of major safety problems with the Get Wet prior to the day Aimee Rhoads died and refused to take action to make repairs. After Aimee’s death, Gracey and Jones closed their business in Key Largo and fled. On June 5, 2015, they were arrested in St. Maarten. They were released by Dutch authorities on bail and fled. Gracey and Jones were last seen in France in April of 2017.
