Fox News Channel’s Brit Hume says sexual-assault allegations against Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, a Democrat, are like chickens “coming home to roost” for the party.
The network’s senior political analyst told Twitter followers Tuesday that lawmakers are revealing their selective moral outrage now that Mr. Fairfax faces uncorroborated claims of misconduct.
The Democrat came under fire Sunday evening when a professor and Stanford University fellow claimed she was sexually assaulted by him at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
Big League Politics broke the story just days after revealing Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s now-infamous 1984 “blackface” medical school yearbook.
“The chickens are coming home to roost and Dems are ducking any way they can,” Mr. Hume responded after seeing Sen. Cory Booker, New Jersey Democrat, react to the allegations.
CBS’ Alan He tweeted, “Senator Booker on the allegation against Lt. Gov Fairfax: ‘I think we should be focusing on what’s right now happening with the Governor. I know you guys are going to try to focus on a lot of things right now, but right now my focus is on again calling for the Gov. to step down.’”
“Senator Warner asked by @igorbobic about the Fairfax allegation: ‘I’m not going to make a comment … I have no further comment than referring you back to the Lt Gov’s statement,’” Mr. He also tweeted.
But Mr. Booker and his colleagues were vocal critics of Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, whose nomination was jeopardized by California college professor Christine Blasey Ford’s similarly denied and uncorroborated claims of sexual assault.
“A Supreme Court nomination is not worth more than the lives of survivors. There must be a full investigation of these allegations of criminal behavior, and Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination must be withdrawn,” Mr. Booker tweeted Sept. 26 in regards the claims, which hinged on Ms. Ford’s retelling of a high-school party at an unspecified time and place.
Henry Rodgers of The Daily Caller buttressed Mr. Hume’s point, noting a refusal to comment by multiple Democratic senators Tuesday.
“I have asked around 10 Democratic Senators if they believe Virginia Lt. Gov Justin Fairfax’s accuser,” he tweeted. “None of them will comment, some say they have not heard the news.”
Mr. Fairfax admitted to a sexual encounter during the 2004 convention before he was married, but he denies any criminal wrongdoing.
“I have lived my life in a way that I’m proud of,” he told reporters Monday in the rotunda of Virginia’s state Capitol.
