Tyler Thompson’s big season continues with win in Indianapolis

Tyler Thompson’s sensational second season of supermodified racing continued Saturday night when the young Fulton racer won the Fall Brawl supermod special at the Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indianapolis.

Earlier this season, Thompson became the youngest driver to win an Oswego supermodified feature as a 17-year-old Fulton High School graduate.

He followed that with a win in the 63th annual Oswego International Classic, and he was the youngest to ever win that 200-lap Labor Day special.

Tyler’s latest triumph comes on the speedy five-eighth-mile Lucas Oil track, and the victory in the 40-lap main event was worth $3,000.

Danny Shirey followed Thompson to the checkers, with Mike McVetta, A.J. Lesicki and Joe Gosek making up the top five. Dan Connors was seventh and Dave McKnight 13th.

WILLIAMSON AGAIN: Prior to this weekend, Mat Williamson hadn’t won a race on the Super DIRTcar big block modified tour this season.

But after a win in the Duel at the Demon at Brewerton on Friday and a repeat performance in Saturday night’s Mohawk Speedway’s 100, Williamson’s Buzz Chew modified team has suddenly become one of the frontrunners in DIRT modified racing.

After tour rookie Demetrios Drellos led much of the early going at Mohawk, Williamson whipped past Billy Dunn and Matt Sheppard midrace and held on for his second straight win in as many nights.

The Canadian victor picked up a $10,000 check and a guaranteed starting spot in the Billy Whittaker 200 finale to the upcoming Super DIRT Week at Oswego on Oct. 13.

Dunn ended up second in a Ray Graham-owned modified, while tour point leader Matt Sheppard was third. Erick Rudolph was fourth, followed by David Hebert, Tim Fuller, Larry Wight, Billy Decker, Lance Willix and Drellos. Other local finishers included Jimmy Phelps (13th), Pat Ward (17th) and Danny Johnson (18th).

OHSWEGEN: For the first time in its 15-year history, an Ohswegen weekly competitor won the Canadian 360 Sprint Car Nationals special when Scott Kreutter won the caution-free feature race. Kreutter picked up $12,000 for the win and his teammate, Matt Farnham, wound up second.

LANCASTER: On Aug. 17, the 30th annual Druer/Jankowiak Memorial was postponed when a car damaged the outer wall in a bad crash six laps into the main event. The 110-lap feature was completed Friday night, and Matt Hirschman won the Race of Champions feature.

The Lancaster U.S. Open Weekend winds up Sunday afternoon with a 125-lap feature for Race of Champions pavement modifieds.

SANTOS: Bobby Santos won Saturday night’s feature race for Must See 410 Sprint Cars at the Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Stewart Friesen won Saturday night’s big-block modified feature at the Fonda Speedway, while Gary Lindberg was the DIRT 358 modified victor at the Ransomville Speedway.
