BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Sixty Tier 1A employees at Northpoint Training Center received their initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine last week, according to Facebook posts from the Boyle County correctional facility and Ephraim McDowell Health.

The vaccinations were a result of a partnership between the Boyle County Health Department and Ephraim McDowell Health.

There have been 79 total cases of COVID-19 and one death among the staff at Northpoint Training Center, according to the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Corrections website.

There have been 870 cases and two deaths among inmates at the facility.

Officials have not announced whether inmates will also receive the vaccination.

Boyle County Public Health Director Brent Blevins asked in a Facebook post for community leaders to encourage their constituents to visit the CDC website to find resources to make an educated decision on whether to be vaccinated.

"Each of you are important to this community and your voice is needed," he said.

Blevins said more than 300 shots have been given to people over 33 agencies including first responders and medical officials.
