Kudos to the city of Bethlehem in taking the initiative to ban single-use plastic bags for customer’s purchases. This effort prods citizens to become responsible for providing their own reusable bags.

State representatives should take note and pursue this, to enact a statewide ban.

In addition, it would greatly benefit our environment. It would take this to a higher level and force companies that provide products for restaurants and fast food chains to make all of their products biodegradable.

The elimination of “take-home” plastic, aluminum and the worst perpetrator, styrofoam (which Germany has banned) containers would be a massive benefit. Only then can we expect to see a reduction in roadside litter and solid waste impact on landfills.
