5 Tips To Protect Yourself From Indoor Air Pollution

Over the last few weeks, Delhi/NCR Punjab and Haryana region are facing high thick layer of smoke in the air. The pollution level has increased majorly after the festival season and Parali burning. Smoke coming from other regions is also resulting in the percentage increase in pollution. Delhi/NCR, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are ranked as the most polluted cities with the poorest Air Quality Index. The AQI of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh after Diwali was at the server level. Haryana was touching 448 whereas Uttar Pradesh reached to 440 AQI and Delhi AQI was 407. Nowadays, the pollution level has become so high that people are experiencing pollution inside their houses. Government is taking several initiatives to control the pollution, but we can take small steps too, to decrease the level of pollution inside the home.

Here are a few ways to reduce air pollution inside the house:

  • Sixty per cent of indoor air quality becomes miserable due to low ventilation quality. Proper ventilation retains the non-toxic air. Ventilation is an easy way to exchange good clean air inside the house.
  • Installing air-purifiers is also one –way to keep the indoor air clean, but according to experts, it should be high-efficiency particulate arresting (HEPA) air filters.

Avoid smoking or burning candle in the house

  • As per the 90 per cent of the reports, one of the primary reasons for increased air pollution inside the living space is smoking.
  • It leads to the accumulation of smoke and toxic substances and increases the air pollution level of indoor air quality.

Try to place more indoor plants in rooms

  • People usually spend most of the time at home or in office, by placing plants inside the premises can improve air quality. As indoor plants remove the toxic gas releases
  • through various other elements. Having plants inside the room minimizes eyes irritation.
  • Also, lowers the stress and boost attention capacity while preventing you from coughing and congestion.

Removing carpets if possible

  • Carpets act as a harbour for small dust particles and pet dander which increases air pollution.
  • The dust particles released from the carpets result in chronic lung problems such as asthma and persistent coughs.
  • Removing carpets is an easy and definite way of reducing indoor air pollution.

Use of exhaust fans

  • Humid air in the bathroom and kitchen increases the exposure of the indoor occupants to fungus.
  • Fungus carries tiny particles that can enter the body and cause serious illness such as cold, persistent cough and even fungal infection.
  • The installation of exhaust fans in the kitchen and bathroom will help reduce exposure.
