A woman is dead following a fire in Taneyville Thursday afternoon.

Central Taney County Fire Department Chief Douglas Bower says responders were called to a house fire at 120 Myrtle Street between 12:30 and 1 p.m.

Firefighters pulled the woman out and paramedics began trying to revive her. However, the woman did not survive.

A family pet also lost in the fire.

"This is never what we want to see out of any fire. That's why we preach smoke detectors and alarms. Those are the number one things that can save people's lives. The quicker you know about the fire, the quicker you can get out, the quicker you can call us. We are the guys that know how to do the job when we get here. Get out, get to safety, let us take over when we get here," Chief Bower said.

Chief Bower says the fire was electrical in nature and caused by an outlet. There were clothes piled up around the outlet and it overheated. It has been ruled accidental.
