President Donald Trump sets 2 Arizona campaign stops for next week

PHOENIX – President Donald Trump is returning to Arizona next week for two campaign stops, but Phoenix-area supporters will have to travel to see him.

With early voting about to start, the president will speak Monday in Tucson and Tuesday in Flagstaff, his press office announced Thursday.

(UPDATE: Trump’s Arizona visits were announced before he went into quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19.)

The appearances will come just three weeks after Trump’s last Arizona visit. He hosted a Latinos for Trump roundtable event on Sept. 14 at the Arizona Grand Resort in Phoenix.

The surroundings won’t be so cushy next week. Trump is scheduled to deliver remarks at Tucson International Airport at 6:30 p.m. Monday and at Flagstaff Pulliam Airport at 6 p.m. the next day.

Trump has appeared in Arizona five times already this year, and other members of his campaign have made numerous visits.

Arizona is considered a battleground state, and the incumbent has been trailing Democrat Joe Biden in recent polling.

Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in Arizona by 3.5 percentage points in 2016.

Biden announced plans Thursday with Kamala Harris to visit the Grand Canyon State for the first time this election cycle on Oct. 8.

Monday is the deadline for Arizonans to register to vote, and early voting begins Wednesday.

We want to hear from you.
