Iowa sees 3,872 new COVID-19 cases, 19 confirmed deaths from the virus

Iowa on Tuesday reported 3,872 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with a 39.58 percent positivity rate out of the 9,782 tests.
The state's seven-day average of new cases - 3,574 - ticked up Tuesday after trending downward for eight consecutive days.
Hospitalizations across the state increased from 1,333 to 1,351. The number of patients on ventilators increased from 135 to 155, a record.
The number of patients in intensive care units ticked up from 273 to 275, according to data from the Iowa Department of Public Health analyzed by The Gazette.
The state also reported 19 COVID-19 deaths, including three in Linn County, in the 24-hour period ending at 11 a.m. Tuesday, To date, 2,224 people have died from the virus since March.
Iowa has reported 215,612 coronavirus cases since March.
The new cases reported Tuesday included 439 children 17 and younger, bringing the number of infections in that age group to 21,172 since March.
County totals
Locally, Linn County on Tuesday reported 212 new virus cases, with a positivity rate of 31.98 percent. The county's seven-day average is 227.
Johnson County reported 133 cases, with a positivity rate of 31.82 percent. The county's seven-day average is 113.
Story County added 124 virus cases, with a positivity rate of 26.33 percent. Its seven-day average is 126.
Black Hawk County reported 210 new cases, with a positivity rate of 41.92 percent. Its seven-day average is 159.
Jones County reported 25 new cases, and a positivity rate of 54.35 percent. The county's seven-day average for new cases is 51 per day.
Deaths
The three deaths in Linn County reported Tuesday brings the county's death toll to 161.
Two deaths each were reported in Marshall, Muscatine, Polk and Webster counties.
The counties reporting one death each were Adair, Benton, Black Hawk, Butler, Dallas, Fremont, Shelby and Woodbury.
Long-term care
West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids was added to the state's outbreak list on Tuesday, with four cases and one recovered.
Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion reported 25 cases and nine recoveries as of Tuesday.
