Annie Easton is looking even more, well, “Shrill” in Season 2 of the Hulu series.
Aidy Bryant’s wild-haired character is looking equal parts in control and out of control as she shakes up her life after dealing with fat-shamers and jettisoning her job and several relationships (including a stalker and her own mother) in Season 1.
“I know what I’m doing, so I’m gonna go do it,” the randy essayist tells her nasty former boss Gabe (played with dismissive flair by John Cameron Mitchell) without a glimmer of thought about the consequences.
“Saturday Night Live” star Bryant has Annie smashing both expectations and household items as she tries to find her new center by “shaking my s- -t up a little,” she says. That includes seeking out a new job — unemployed Annie applies for an internship, but it turns out to be unpaid — and letting loose on a dance floor. But her thrill for new adventures goes way beyond that, with typically disastrous results. Her wild exploits even include receiving oral sex outdoors from her unkempt boyfriend Ryan (Luka Jones) but, in true Annie fashion, they get interrupted by an innocent scout troop passing by.
Still, she likes her new process for self-discovery. “It actually feels good to be a little bit f- -king bad,” she says in voice-over. “I feel insane and amazing right now!”
Bryant herself seems to feel pretty amazing these days, launching a plus-size fashion line during the summer and basking in the success of her show, which is based on the memoir “Shrill: Notes From a Loud Woman” by Lindy West.
“It’s been so overwhelming and I think I really thought I was making this small show for, you know, fat ladies who felt unseen or whatever and it’s really been overwhelming because pretty much anyone with a body can relate to some element of it,” she said on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” in March.
Season 2 of “Shrill,” executive produced by “SNL” showrunner Lorne Michaels and “Charlie’s Angels” filmmaker Elizabeth Banks, will premiere Jan. 24 on Hulu.
