CLARKRIDGE, AR (KAIT) - A Baxter County man is in jail following a weekend shooting.

Sheriff John Montgomery states in a news release deputies arrested Kenneth Wayne Jackson, 49, of Clarkridge Sunday evening.

Deputies were called to a domestic disturbance around 9 p.m. in Clarkridge in the 500-block of Somer View Drive.

While en route, the sheriff states deputies received information that a man had left the house on foot and a neighbor was shooting at him.

Jackson, according to Montgomery, was found by deputies standing in the road "holding a black pistol in his hand, holding another man on the ground at gunpoint."

Deputies secured the 9mm Glock Jackson was holding and found the man on the ground was shot once in the front-left shoulder.

A female witness told investigators Jackson and the unidentified victim had been arguing and fighting in the house. The victim left and Jackson shot "several rounds" at him.

Three cartridges were found on the ground, according to the sheriff.

Jackson told deputies he fired in self-defense as the man was moving toward him.

However, the unarmed victim said he had his hands raised as Jackson was firing at him.

Jackson is in the Baxter County Detention Center on a felony charge of battery in the first degree.

Bond was set at $50,000 and he will appear in circuit court on Thursday, May 12.
