Coronavirus: North Reading Reports First Death
According to the town, the resident met the criteria for a higher risk of severe illness as outlined by the CDC.
NORTH READING, MA — North Reading reported the first coronavirus-related death in town on Friday. Details about the resident were not released but the town said, the resident met the criteria for a higher risk of severe illness as outlined by the CDC. North Reading has 30 confirmed cases of the virus in town.
As the town mourns the death of the resident, officials are reminding the community to take social distancing practices seriously. "These are the most powerful tools we each have available to us to not only protect ourselves, but to prevent the spread of the virus to others in our community," read a letter from Town Administrator Michael Gilleberto and Director of Public Health Robert Bracey.
Seven cases of the virus in town have recovered, and the Health Department continues to monitor 22 cases. North Reading Town Hall remains operational but closed to the public and for public meetings through May 3.
