MCTS bus driver Natalie Barnes, left, was honored Friday night by pop singer Kelly Clarkson at a concert in Green Bay.

Natalie Barnes, a Milwaukee County bus driver who gained national attention for helping a homeless man, was honored on stage Friday at a concert by pop singer Kelly Clarkson.

One night last October, Barnes allowed a homeless man to stay on the Milwaukee County Transit System bus she was driving so he could keep warm. Then she bought him dinner and helped him find temporary shelter.

Her act of kindness was featured on CNN and ABC's "World News Tonight." Celebrities tweeted about her, including Shonda Rhimes, George Lopez and Ellen DeGeneres. Also, Time magazine honored her as an “Everyday Hero of 2018” in its annual Person of the Year edition.

Clarkson invited Barnes to be a special guest at her concert at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

She called Barnes on stage, played a clip of an MCTS video describing what happened and had a Q&A discussion with Barnes in front of the audience.

“You have no idea how something so simple can completely alter someone’s life and path and change it for good. And it’s just a really beautiful thing,” Clarkson said.
