One person has died in a single-vehicle crash north of Montrose Friday morning.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol said a 41-year-old female was driving a 2003 Dodge Caravan eastbound on 248th Street when she lost control approaching a curve. The vehicle went into the ditch, rolled, and started on fire.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not known whether she was wearing a seatbelt.

Authorities are not releasing the woman’s name until the family has been notified. She was the only occupant.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were McCook County Sheriff’s Office and Montrose Fire Department.
