CAROL JEAN KOLNOWSKI

Carol Jean Kolnowski, 69, of Herron, passed away on Thursday Nov. 14, 2019 at Covenant Healthcare-Saginaw after battling various illnesses. She was a compassionate, caring woman and will be deeply missed. She was born on Nov. 10, 1950 to Tom and Margie (Baker) Martell in Alpena, Michigan.

Carol was a graduate of Alpena High School Class of 1968. Shortly after graduation she attended flight attendant school in Minneapolis where she also worked as a nanny. She then returned home to Alpena and attended Business Administration courses at Alpena Community College. Carol worked for several years at the Fletcher Paper Mill until its closure in 2000. She also worked several other places in Alpena but found that her greatest joy came from being a homemaker. She became very involved in her children’s lives whether it was as soccer team mom, being a leader in the 4-H, or the den mother for Pack 3035. She found a way to be involved with whatever it was that her boys did.

Carol enjoyed researching her heritage, being an avid equestrian, doing arts and crafts, such as making a bassinette that was woven entirely by hand. She was known to be quite the “crafty” person. Carol also had an insatiable thirst for knowledge leading her to many different certifications such as being a massage therapist, a nutritionist, and a Tai Chi instructor.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Mark Kolnowski, two sons, Tony (Jody) Kolnowski and Josh (Jessica) Kolnowski both of Alpena, three grandchildren, Cole, Brooklynn, and soon-to-be- born Elizabeth, four brothers, Terry, Steve, Allen, and Scott Martell, two sisters, Julie Eller and Beth McKinnon, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents.

Family will receive friends for visitation at McWilliams Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. led by Pastor Mike Wigle. Visiting hours will continue Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Fitzpatrick officiating.
