TikTok Accounts to Follow if You Are Planning a Wedding

In the TikTok era, pretty much every topic has the potential to go viral — including wedding planning. Take, for example, the woman who sewed her own wedding dress on the subway. Or, the notorious case of the bride who outlined a contract for her bridal party, complete with “optional” and “mandatory” duties. Another bride got attention for posting how she tried to keep her budget tight by using silk flowers and serving Krispy Kreme doughnuts instead of cake. The hashtag #weddingrules was even trending on TikTok as people posted funny and controversial things they said they’d want to make a rule at their wedding; things like “every [guest] must recite one Nicki Minaj verse” and “no random plus-ones.”

But, TikTok isn’t only about fun, buzzy, and viral moments. Gen Z’s favorite social media channel can actually be a great resource when you are planning a wedding. “TikTok has definitely made sharing wedding advice more fun and accessible. You get to have advice and tips directly from wedding vendors, along with peeks behind the scenes and honest opinions,” says wedding planner Elyse Dawn of The Wedding Planning Guide.“It has a very different feeling than just reading advice from a blog.”

For Nayri Kalayjian of The Wedding Fashion Expert, TikTok has even helped her reach new clients. “TikTok has been such an asset for the wedding industry. It’s been a phenomenal way to show couples the transformations wedding planners and designers create for ceremonies and receptions,” she says.

Wedding photographer Abby Jiu adds that the social-media platform sheds light on the less polished side of wedding planning, giving couples a true idea of what to expect. “It shows a more real look at what it takes to make a wedding happen—from the production of decor to how to get those stunning photos at sunset,” she explains. “TikTok is messier than Instagram, and can show less curated moments happening.”

Named on our 2020 list of the best wedding photographers in America, Abby Jiu Photography is all about telling stories through pictures. The collective’s TikTok account gives sweet behind-the-scenes views of its photoshoots—from couples sneaking kisses and snippets of first dances to a photographer chasing a “just married” car down the street for the perfect shot. Plus, there’s venue and tablescape inspo, plan B ideas for when it rains, creative micro-weddings, and, of course, tons of photoshoot ideas. 

“I started our account during the pandemic,” says Jiu. “With weddings on hold, I loved this medium for a new outlet to show more of what’s going on behind the scenes at weddings.” She shows a couple dealing with a flooded dock, a rained out wedding, and photographers getting the perfect shot out in the middle of the water. As for followers, Jiu says they respond most to before-and-after transformations, tips for wedding planning, and behind-the-scenes looks.

Arizona and Texas-based wedding planner Krystal Gardenia uses TikTok to impart free wisdom, so take advantage! She answers important questions like, “What’s the difference between a wedding planner and a wedding coordinator?” and “Do I need a wedding website?” She also tackles questions of etiquette and tradition like, “Should you wear black to a wedding?” and how to go about asking guests not to bring their kids.  It’s also a useful account for anyone with a wedding on their calendar as she playfully teaches everyone how to not be “that" guest.

Shopping for your gown? This TikTok account has advice and tips for shopping, plus fun relatable videos for when the whole thing is kind of stressing you out. Nayri Kalayjian, an L.A.-based bridal fashion expert at Lovella Bridal, author, and stylist shares her knowledge via TikTok’s easily-digestible video clips. She offers insight on how to pick the right shoes, how to pose for photos in your dress, how to steam your dress and veil, how to pack it for travel, and much more. ​​She also sees it as a tool to promote positive body image and a realistic representation of a bride. 

“For wedding dresses specifically, [TikTok has] been huge for women to see how the gowns move on a body versus a still photo that has been touched up and photoshopped,” she says. “Our followers love anything with gown transitions and movement. They love to see all the different ways gowns can be worn, various accessories, and more. We do a lot of videos of the same style on different body types which has been a huge hit.”

Elyse and Betsy Dawn are Chicago-based wedding planners and sisters. Via TikTok, they offer random tidbits of advice such as, “Your guests need to be told what to do,” and recommend signage throughout the venue. They also answer submitted questions like, “How do you combat people using their iPhone [at a wedding]?” Since they're also florists, the sisters share their favorite flowers and how they make arrangements, too. 

“We started our TikTok in December 2020, a few weeks before we launched our digital wedding planning guide," says Elyse. "The response was amazing right away, and we've loved getting to interact directly with our followers. We really love using it for sharing our honest wedding planning tips and advice." 

She says viewers respond most to their “controversial” posts about topics like “traditions you can ditch” and things to stop spending money on. “It's such a fun mix of followers who love hearing that it's OK to try new things, and those who love the traditions and can't imagine their wedding without them,” she adds.

If you want straight-up, no frills, almost-daily wedding planning advice, this is the account for you. This California-based wedding planner offers tips straight into the camera (usually from a Starbucks drive-thru line). They are so simple that it’s genius—things like “Remember to make sure you’ve removed all price tags from the decor,” “Get enough ice,” and “Feed your wedding party in the morning.” You may be thinking “duh” when you read these, but in the madness of planning a wedding, small things can fall through the cracks. It’s always good to have a gentle reminder.

Attention non-traditional brides: stylist and design consultant, Kennedy, specializes in showcasing gorgeous wedding gowns (and pantsuits, jumpers, and sets) for every style, taste, and aesthetic. She tells us on her website that “she left her post-graduate job in finance searching for any avenue into the fashion industry. A small, start-up bridal brand happened to have an opening and thus the journey began. She sympathized with brides who felt like they didn't fit the traditional idea of what a ‘bride’ was, and has since dedicated her career to showcasing the infinite options in the world of weddings.” Her TikTok account is chock full of unique and whimsical ideas. And, she has some fun with it, too, with posts like, “Wedding dresses I’d wear throughout a pirate movie” and “The zodiac signs as wedding dresses.”

For all you DIYers out there, here’s an account that will help get your creative juices flowing. Crafter and calligrapher Haley Simpson posts videos on how to hand-make charming signs, centerpieces, and details for your wedding. With a rustic, country style, her medium of choice is a chalkboard. But, she also uses mirrors, lots of acrylic paint, and Sharpies—all stuff you can get at your local craft store. Aside from getting great ideas and inspiration, it’s also just really satisfying to watch her write so smoothly in cursive.

If you’re feeling inspired to DIY a little of your wedding, or you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on a wedding cake, The Icing Artist has a life hack for you. She buys standard grocery-store cakes and reimagines them into amazing works of frosting art. While she makes cakes for all occasions, the baker has created some chic stunners like a watercolor-inspired design and a two-tier floral cake with gold leaf. She also shows viewers how to create frosting flowers, keep a cake from toppling over, and other important things for amateur cake DIYers to know.

Eloping? There’s a TikTok for that. Wedding photographer Haley McElroy specializes in elopements and destination weddings, and she has some stunning work to show for it. Based in Oklahoma, she also showcases the natural beauty of her home state through local weddings. She shows edgy shoots—like one with a bride and a snake—and sweet ones like a groom tearing up when he sees his beloved come down the aisle. Aside from beautiful inspiration for your photo shoot, she also offers ideas for engagement shoots, ways to honor loved ones who have passed, and wedding trends she has noticed.

Ellie Juengel garnered over 700,000 followers on TikTok by simply posting all the details of her wedding planning to give others inspiration. She shared every step of the way from planning her bridal shower to taking dance lessons to picking out the ring bearer’s outfit and even her grandpa's tux. Juengel also posted the unboxing of some of her wedding details like custom clothes hangers for the groomsmen and mirrors for her bridal suite.
