WHAT WE'RE WATCHING FOR

Aisha Sheppard cementing herself as the top 3-point shooter in program history

Sheppard, a senior and already a 1,000-point scorer sits tied atop the Virginia Tech record book charts with 2017 graduate Vanessa Panousis with 269 career 3-pointers. The Alexandria, Virginia native, leads the nation with 50 triples this season.

The matchup between two of the conference's top centers

In truth, the battle between Tech's Elizabeth Kitley and State's Elissa Cunane probably pits two of the nation's top post presences against each other. Kitley's Tech's sophomore center is tied for first nationally with nine double-doubles and averages 17.5 points and 11.8 rebounds per contest while shooting 56%. Cunane goes for 16.2 points and 7.5 boards and shoots an efficient 58% from the floor.

What's more, both players wear number 33 and are uniquely familiar with each other, both from Summerfield, North Carolina and played club ball together for many years at the youth level.

A ranked win for the Hokies

Tech's last victory over an AP ranked opponent came at Cassell on February 21, 2019 against the 14th-ranked Miami Hurricanes. Since then the Hokies are 0-5 against ranked opposition, all of whom were ranked inside the top 10.

The program's last victory against a top 10 opponent came in December of 2015 when the Hokies won at No. 8 Tennessee 57-43.

The highest ranked team that the program has defeated was No. 5 ODU in 1985.
