Navotas teachers learn to stop cyberbullying

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Around 150 elementary and high school teachers in Navotas City learned the tricks of detecting and stopping cyberbullying during a seminar last week.

In his message during the seminar, Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco said it is the teachers’ responsibility to guard students from cyberbullying, especialy now at the age of social media.

“Because of the accessibility of the internet, even children have social media accounts and their innocence makes them vulnerable to abuse. As adults, it is our moral and social responsibility to protect them,” Tiangco said.

During the “Capability-Building Seminar on Child Safeguarding and Online Safety” led by the Navotas City Schools Division Office and the Navotas City Council for the Protection of Children, the teachers learned various forms of child abuse, including cyberbullying.

The city government won the 2016 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance for its programs and projects for the welfare of children.
