Carroll Varsity (Jan. 20, 21): Manchester Valley wrestling takes down Liberty in county action

Payton Collins, Lee Seipp, Heathe Hernandez, and Grant Warner each had pins to lead Manchester Valley past Liberty 51-23 on Thursday in Carroll County Athletic League wrestling action.

The Mavericks ran their record to 3-1 with their home victory in preparation for their next match Jan. 26 against unbeaten South Carroll. Anthony Marsico and Adam Slicher registered pins for the Lions (1-2).

South Carroll 71, Century 12

Highlights: The Cavaliers (5-0) posted pins from Michael Pizzuto, Anthony Bond, Gage Owen, AJ Rodrigues, Jake Rippeon, Brandon Athey, and Rylan Moose. The Knights won two matches by forfeit and fell to 0-3.

Westminster 61, FSK 6

Highlights: The Owls (3-1) got pins from Zach Pramik, Ivan Allen, Harrison Reed, and Connor Kolarek. Zach Kinloch and Rodney Griffin both won by decision for Key (0-5).

Girls Basketball

Liberty 69, Winters Mill 40

Highlights: Alex Bull had 20 points and Kayla Allen netted 18 for the unbeaten Lions (6-0). Sophia Barnes led the Falcons with 12 points.

Century 50, South Carroll 37

Highlights: On Wednesday, Erin Mellendick and Demma Hall scored 12 points apiece and Century improved to 4-1. The Knights led 25-8 at halftime. Sarah Vaught had a game-high 13 for the Cavaliers (3-2), and Shannon McTavish finished with 12.

Liberty 46, Man Valley 35

Highlights: On Wednesday Alex Bull led the Lions with 16 points and Samantha Hardy added 13. Kendall Reitz totaled 11 points and nine rebounds for the Mavs (3-2), who got nine boards from Carmaya Bowman.

Westminster 41, FSK 35

Highlights: On Wednesday, Abby Kindle netted a team-high 14 points and the Owls (1-4) earned their first win of the season. Kindle added five steals and Kirsten Whitehead scored nine for Westminster. Ally Mathias grabbed 16 rebounds and scored 11 points for a double-double for the Eagles (0-5).

Boys Basketball

Westminster 49, FSK 44

Highlights: On Wednesday, The Owls (2-3) grabbed the lead late and held on. Alan Jean Joseph had 14 points for Westminster. Ryan Rill poured in 25 for the Eagles (2-2) and pulled down six rebounds.

Liberty 67, Man Valley 47

Highlights: On Wednesday, Justin Sheetz and Steven Talbot scored 15 apiece for the Lions (2-1), and Talbot added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Sam Allen and Jayden Adams had 10 points each for Liberty. Zach Bowen had a game-high 17 points for the Mavs (0-4) and Ja’Quan Dukes posted 10.
