SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Nathan Sneed, an inmate who escaped from Greene County Jail, was taken back into custody at around 11:25 p.m.

At around 6:36 p.m., Sneed and one other individual were able to escape from the Greene County Jail.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office said the two escaped through an 8-inch section of fence. The other inmate was caught quickly, but Sneed was able to get away.

Authorities set up a perimeter in the Cox North area where Sneed was last seen, and after a nearly five-hour manhunt were able to take Sneed back into custody. Details were not given for how Sneed was caught.

Greene County Detectives say they are investigating more charges for Sneed for “escape from custody”, which can mean, if given maximum punishment, four more years in prison and a fine of $10,000.

Sneed was originally arrested for 3rd degree domestic assault.

The second man who escaped, Jacob Atkinson, will also face additional charges for escape from custody.

“We will also be adding additional security features to this area to prevent further attempts of escape,” Sheriff Jim Arnott said.
