Exclusive: Country Singer Levi Hummon Releases New Song Called “Wedding Dress”
Champagne, a proposal and a wedding dress. Sounds like the formula for a must-have country song at a wedding. Country singer-songwriter Levi Hummon is covering it all in his new song “Wedding Dress,” which he debuts on The Knot.
“I’ve been to a lot of my friends’ weddings. Also, my mom [Reverend Becca Stevens] is a preacher so I grew going to them as well,” Hummon says. “Honestly, my favorite part is being with friends, family and dancing all night long. For some reason, I thrive on wedding dance floors.”
It was at a wedding, in fact, where he envisioned his future love story play out, resulting in the inspiration behind his latest release. “I got the idea for the song when my best friend got married,” the musician, 28, shares. “It was a really beautiful summer wedding here in Nashville. I was sitting there with my girlfriend thinking about how amazing she would look standing at the altar and the idea stayed with me.”
The tune could work for a range of wedding day moments—from the first dance song all the way to wedding party entrance music. The meaning isn’t just about the dress, as misleading as the song title might seem.
To Hummon, it’s profound. “The song isn’t about the dress as much as it’s about the idea of picturing forever with someone,” he says. “I wanted paint the moment of [what runs through your mind] when you realize you might end up doing life with that person.”
Hummon hails from a rich lineage of musical prowess as his father is songwriter Marcus Hummon. The senior Hummon is the songwriter behind Rascal Flatts smash single “Bless the Broken Road.” He’s also written for the likes of the Dixie Chicks among other standout country artists. Therefore, Levi would like nothing more than to share his future first dance to one of his dad’s hits.
“Man,” he muses. “His song ‘Only Love,’ which was his first number one for Wynona Judd back in the ’90s, kills me every time. I would love that.”
Something else he knows he wants with his future wedding is the must-have item on his someday registry. “Can I ask for a big Italian pizza oven?” he laughs. “Because if so, that’s what I’m asking for. Either that or a hibachi kitchen stove.” He also knows what he wants in a future bachelor party too.
“Well, my friend’s bachelor party is in Charleston this upcoming summer and I love that city! I like the idea of something laid back and beach-inspired,” he says. “Vegas just isn’t my scene.”
