MSU Women’s Basketball: Spartans pick up Purdue transfer Tamara Farquhar

The Michigan State Spartans women’s basketball team signed graduate transfer Tamara Farquhar yesterday. The four-year player for the Purdue Boilermakers will head to East Lansing this fall as a combo guard/forward.

Farquhar averaged 6.5 points and 6.1 rebounds in the 23 games she played this past season, but began the season on a hot streak, averaging 10.1 points and 8.0 rebounds over the first seven games. Overall, she played in 106 games for Purdue through her senior season, and started in 89 of those contests.

The only time Farquhar came off the bench for Purdue was during her freshman year, and the only games she missed in her career were as a junior following a season-ending knee injury against Rutgers. Farquhar is also the fourth and final senior to leave the Purdue program following the 2020-2021 season.

The 6-foot guard/forward hails from Pierrefonds, Quebec, Canada, and was a member of the Canadian National Women’s Development Team, earning the silver medal at the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, Korea. She also played in the RISE Across Border Global Games for Team Canada.

Coach Merchant offered the following on Farquhar’s skillset as she signed with the team:

“We love the experience, athleticism, and skill set that Tamara brings to our program. Her ability to play multiple positions both on offense and defense is something that we were very excited to add to our roster. She is a tremendous rebounder and loves to play in open space especially in transition. We are thrilled to welcome Tamara and her family to the Spartan Nation.”

Farquhar joins freshmen Damiya Hagemann (Detroit, Michigan), Isaline Alexander (Keswick, Ontario, Canada), Brooklyn Rewers (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho), Lauren Walker (Marietta, Georgia), and Matilda Ekh (Västerås, Sweden) as the latest signee of the incoming 2021 class.
