Army Junior ROTC Cadet Maj. Julian Carreon of Arroyo Valley High School in San Bernardino received a Military Officers’ Association of America medal and certificate this spring from the Redlands-based Orange Empire Military Officers’ Club.

Retired Col. Nick Costa of the Orange Empire Military Officers’ Club presented the award.

Carreon, a third-year cadet, is executive officer of the Hawk Battalion of Arroyo Valley High School Army Junior ROTC, according to a press release from the Orange Empire Military Officers’ Club. He follows two brothers who were members of the same Junior ROTC unit.

The Military Officers’ Association of America award is presented annually to recognize leadership and academic achievements of cadets in their junior or senior year.

The Orange Empire Military Officers’ Club supports 13 ROTC units with the annual Military Officers’ Association of America award — two college-level ROTC units and 11 high school Junior ROTC units from Beaumont to Fontana.

The Orange Empire Military Officers’ Club meets monthly from September through June at the Redlands Country Club. Membership is open to active-duty, National Guard, Reserve, retired and former commissioned officers and warrant officers of the U.S. uniformed services, and to their widows and widowers.
