CALEDONIA — Baylee DeVos, a Caledonia High School student, wore a Victorian style ballgown decorated with roses and delicate hand-cut sleeves to her prom this year. The catch: the entire dress was made of out Duck Tape.

DeVos entered the Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest with her dress design and won the top prize. It took 24 rolls of Duck Tape and more than 86 hours to make her winning one-of-a-kind design.

Even her accessories were made from Duck Tape.

Her jewelry, hairpiece, corsage, purse and even her French manicure were all made from Duck Tape. She said the hardest part was the sleeves, which she made with clear tape embellished with white roses and vines that she meticulously cut out.

As a part of the contest, DeVos won a $10,000 scholarship, which she plans to use at Ferris State University where she will study graphic design. DeVos has made a commitment to not take out any student loans, so this scholarship will go a long way.

DeVos has dreamed of participating in the Stuck at Prom contest since she was in middle school. “The finalist status and prize money aside, it is incredibly rewarding and a unique way to make prom memorable,” she said.

The Caledonia high school student won the top prize out of 90 other entries.
