To the Times:

You may not know but March is designated “Colon Cancer Awareness” month. Taking a cue from David Letterman’s popular Top 10 lists, here are the Top 10 reasons why you need to get a colonoscopy.

10: You like spending quality time in your bathroom.

9: Colon cleansing is fashionable.

8: You enjoy a liquid diet.

7: You like drinking stuff that induces diarrhea.

6: You are over 50.

5: You have bloating.

4: You are anemic.

3: You have a family history of colon cancer.

2: You have blood in your stools

And the No. 1 reason to have a colonoscopy – to detect and remove polyps before they become cancerous.

Colon cancer is no laughing matter. If detected early, it is one of the most curable cancers. I know. I had Stage 2 colon cancer when I was 42 and had a third of my colon removed. While prepping for a colonoscopy is not fun, consider the alternative. Get tested.
