A Tioga County man is dead following a one-vehicle crash Wednesday.

The accident took place around 3:15 p.m. on state Route 287 near Maries Lane in Middlebury Township, Tioga County, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Mansfield.

The driver, identified as Charles Cornelius Umble, 36, of Westfield, was southbound on Route 287 in a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck at the time, troopers said.

After negotiating a slight left hand curve in the roadway, the pickup truck then reportedly spun out of control and drove off the northbound shoulder into a swampy area of grass.

The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its roof, troopers said.

Umble was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to state police. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tioga County Coroner's Office.

Heavy rain, wet road conditions and speed were contributing factors in the crash, investigators said.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Middlebury Fire and Ambulance Co.
