GIRLS SOCCER

• Hickory 3, Meadville 0 – At Hornet Stadium, goalkeeper Molly Piso set the District 10 record for career shutouts as Hickory defeated the Lady Bulldogs.

Piso recorded her 46th career shutout. It broke the previous mark of 45 set by Morgan McBride (2013 graduate). 

Based on stats recorded by the Pa. Soccer Coaches Association, 46 is the new District 10 record in both boys and girls soccer.

“I’m very proud of Molly,” said Hickory Coach B.J. Rudge. “She had to make a dozen saves to achieve the record. She’s a great girl and it’s always exciting to see a great accomplishment like that and for the team to be a big part of that.”

Kayla Saylor fired in 2 goals to lead Hickory’s offense against Meadville while Santina Masters had the other goal.

Saylor, Carla Murtha and Emily Grande had 1 assist each.

• Slippery Rock 9, Grove City 1 – At Slippery Rock, Amanda Lewis and Hannah Burtner both had hat tricks to lead the Lady Rockets past Grove City.

Kayla Daugherty, Emily Raine and Anna Kadlubek each had the other goals for Slippery Rock.

Grove City’s lone goal was scored by Emilee Larrick.

• Greenville 3, Conneaut Area 0 – At Linesville, the Lady Trojans (1-1-1) posted the shutout over CASH (0-3).

No stats were reported to The Herald by deadline on Monday night.

• Mercer 3, North East 0 – At North East Saturday, Ryan Dubiel, Julia Balaski and Peyton Miller scored goals as the Lady M’s defeated the Grapepickers.

Darby Miller, Devyn Bailey and Arielle Reiser were credited with assists. Bailey Grossman posted the shutout in goal.

FOOTBALL

Two area teams are ranked in this week’s high school football rankings by the Harrisburg Patriot-News.

Wilmington is ranked 7th in Class 2A while Grove City is 9th in Class 3A. Also, in 1A, Farrell is listed as a “team to watch.”

• Wilmington 3, Reynolds 1 – At Transfer, the Lady Hounds posted a 25-19, 25-22, 18-25, 25-17 win over the Raiders.

• Hickory 5, Sharon 0 – At Hickory Tennis Center, Hermitage, the host Hornets harvested a handful of straight-sets wins.

“Our players all played strong matches in securing straight-set victories. ...(The) highlight of the match for us was the return of junior Emily Spielvogel to the lineup,” summarized co-Head Coach Ed Newmeyer.

Daphne Borowicz, Isabelle Frangakis and Nicolette Leonard swept singles play, as did the doubles duos of Lauren Ordinario-Hannah Beighley and Spielvogel-Leah Martin for Hickory (2-1 region, 7-1 overall), which welcomes Fairview today.

“We expect a very close and highly-competitive match,” Newmeyer said.

Cameron Colbert tied a Hickory 9-hole school record with a 34. That included a double bogey on the first hole.
