VA Coronavirus: Take Our Survey

Patch's informal survey asks how well VA authorities are coping with the coronavirus pandemic and how it has affected your family.

Protesters gathered April 22 in Richmond and demanded that Gov. Ralph Northam reopen the state for business. They said his "stay-at-home" order and restrictions on gatherings of 10 or more people due to coronavirus went too far.

VIRGINIA — The coronavirus pandemic has put a tremendous strain on nearly everyone and everything — on families and communities, on society and the economy, on governments and other institutions. Gov. Ralph Northam has been criticized by some residents outside of populous northern Virginia, where most COVID-19 cases are, for not reopening portions of the state. Patch wants to know how you think everyone is doing.

We've created a survey with questions in three main areas: on how you view the performance of governments and key elected officials during the crisis; on how you and your family have been affected economically; and how well you and your community have followed guidelines on social distancing and staying at home.

Northam's testing goal for reopening the economy calls for a 10,000-per-day testing capacity. FEMA is sending 200,000 additional swabs to Virginia to help increase testing in the state. The governor's order closing certain non-essential businesses and limiting restaurants to takeout and delivery only was recently extended through May 8. The separate stay-at-home order for Virginia residents is in effect through June 10.

The survey is not meant to be a scientific poll, with random sampling and margins of error. It's meant only to gauge the sentiments of our readers in an informal way. But we hope it gives a broad idea of public attitudes at a difficult time for everyone.

Sorry, the survey is now closed. You can see the results here.
