BUECHE – Two children were injured in a Monday afternoon head-on collision on Bueche Road north of La. 620 in West Baton Rouge Parish, according to a Louisiana State Police news release.

Troopers suspect drug impairment to have played a factor in the crash, the release says.

Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Shannon Taylor, 30, of Bueche was driving a 2000 Chevrolet pickup south on Bueche Road when she drove a right-hand curve and crossed the center line into the oncoming path of anorthbound pickup, the release says.

The northbound pickup, a 1997 Chevrolet, was being driven by Alfred Burks, 65, of New Roads.

The two trucks hit each other head-on in the northbound lane, the release says.

Two children in Taylor’s truck, ages 7 and 8, were transported along with Taylor to a Baton Rouge hospital, the release says.

Burks was alone in the vehicle and sustained non life-threatening injuries. He was also transported to a Baton Rouge hospital.

Troopers booked Taylor with second-offense DWI, three counts of vehicular negligent injuring and careless operation, the release says.

Taylor will be booked into West Baton Rouge Parish Prison upon her release from the hospital, the release says.

Burks is not facing any charges at this point, the release says. Troopers have submitted blood samples of both drivers to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

The crash remains under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming, the release says.
