Inert grenade in luggage causes scene, heavy police response to Detroit airport

An inert grenade found in the luggage of an active service member caused a brief scare and quite the scene Thursday, June 13 at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

The Associated Press reports that the object that turned out to be an inactive grenade drew a large police presence and shut things down for a period at security screening.

As the event unfolded Thursday, those able to tweet updates from the airport claimed things were at a standstill with some even saying that all flights were on hold out of Detroit.

The Detroit Free Press reports that the passenger was charged for disorderly conduct due to the disruption caused at the airport. Erica Donerson, a spokesperson with the Wayne County Airport Authority, told the newspaper that the incident occurred a little after 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
