1,685 New Coronavirus Cases In Florida; 21 More Deaths

TALLAHASSEE, FL —Florida health officials reported 1,685 more cases of the coronavirus on Monday along with another 21 new deaths from the virus.

The total number of deaths in Florida rose to 13,317 Monday, up from 13,296 a day earlier. Florida's most recent one-day record of reported deaths was set on Aug. 11. Health officials reported another 163 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in Florida.

Monday's death total compares to nine new deaths Sunday, 62 new deaths Saturday, 139 new deaths Friday, 147 new deaths Thursday, 152 new deaths Wednesday, 145 new coronavirus deaths Tuesday and 34 new deaths last Monday.

The total number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Florida climbed to 685,439, up from 683,754 a day earlier.

Florida Department of Health officials last week stopped listing the counties that report new deaths. Floridians must now search all 67 counties on the Florida Department of Health's coronavirus dashboard and compare the results to the previous day's data to find the same information.

Florida's numbers compare to 787,441 cases and 15,019 deaths in California; 713,361 cases and 15,088 deaths in Texas as well as 450,473 cases and 33,092 deaths in New York, according to information compiled by Johns Hopkins.

Sunday was the state's 39th day of daily positivity under 10 percent. The daily positivity rate is calculated by taking the number of people who test PCR-or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.

Florida's overall positivity rate, which is cumulative, was at 13.39 percent as of Monday based on 5,120,391 total tests.

Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, reported 167,153 cases of the virus and 3,055 deaths as of Monday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 75,801 cases and 1,322 deaths. Palm Beach County, which includes Palm Beach, West Palm and Boca Raton, reported 45,425 cases and 1,277 deaths.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 40,898 cases of the virus and 604 deaths while Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 39,056 cases and 431 deaths.

Sarasota County, which includes the city of Sarasota, reported 7,903 cases of the virus and 247 deaths. Manatee County, which includes Bradenton, reported 11,241 cases and 277 deaths. Pinellas County reported 21,561 cases of the virus and 728 deaths while Pasco County reported 8,893 cases and 205 deaths. Polk County, which includes Lakeland, reported 19,243 cases of the virus and 507 deaths.

The state reported 42,543 hospitalizations, up from 42,453 hospitalizations a day earlier. That represents an increase of 100 new hospitalizations over the previous day.

State health officials also reported a total of 2,269 current hospitalizations with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19, which is down from 2,285 current hospitalizations a day earlier.
