WSOF strikes development partnership with Bahrain prince's KHK MMA team

One of the MMA world’s newest hotbeds for talent growth is Bahrain, and WSOF appears poised to help tap the market.

The Las Vegas-based promotion told MMAjunkie it has formed a partnership with Bahrain’s Ministry of Sport to help create more MMA training and growth in the Middle East, as well as give a surge to tourism in the country.

Bahrain is a group of islands located in the Persian Gulf, with Saudi Arabia on one side and Qatar on the other.

The partnership will have roots in developing KHK MMA, the team created earlier this year by Prince Khalid Bin Hamad al Khalifa, Bahrain’s crown prince, as well as first deputy prime minister. The prince is an avid MMA fan and practitioner.

wsof-bahrain“World Series of Fighting is proud to enter this partnership and support the ambitious and committed efforts of Prince al Khalifa and Bahrain’s Ministry of Sports, with our established world-class league and competition platform,” WSOF Senior Vice President Ali Abdelaziz stated.

“We are excited to partner with World Series of Fighting, one of the premier MMA leagues on the planet,” Prince al Khalifa stated. “With this new relationship, KHK MMA will have the means to grow properly into a seasoned, competitive sports organization and inspire sports-minded youth in our nation to participate in martial arts and MMA, and Bahrain will be able to effectively offer tourists another incentive to visit and enjoy our beautiful country.”

Earlier this year, the KHK MMA team was visited by the likes of former UFC champion Frankie Edgar, Renzo Gracie and Khabib Nurmagomedov, who helped provide training and instruction to the team.
