EAST BAY, CA — Walnut Creek police arrested a 64-year-old woman they say confessed to stealing landscaping plants approximately 20 times in recent months in Concord, Walnut Creek and Clayton. Kim Elizabeth Murphy of Clayton is charged with petty theft.

The investigation began in September when two businesses reported to Walnut Creek police that recently planted landscaping had been stolen. Surveillance video showed a woman driving a red Hyundai Elantra, stealing the plants.

Investigators identified Murphy as their suspect. They obtained an arrest warrant, but another theft happened before they could serve it. Murphy was arrested on Oct. 15.
