Tennessee basketball announces nonconference schedule for 2022-23 season

Tennessee basketball announced its nonconference schedule for the 2022-23 season Tuesday.

The slate is highlighted by a trip to Arizona, an SEC/Big 12 Challenge matchup with Texas and the Battle 4 Atlantis. UT also faces Maryland and Colorado in neutral-site games in New York and Nashville, respectively.

Tennessee opens the season against Tennessee Tech on Nov. 7 at Thompson-Boling Arena. UT hosts Florida Gulf Coast and McNeese State in November and hosts Alcorn State, Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay in December.

The Vols end a three-game series with Colorado at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Nov. 13, its earliest marquee nonconference game.

They face Butler to open the Battle 4 Atlantis on Nov. 23 before facing either BYU or USC on Nov. 24. They play a third game in the Bahamas on Nov. 25. The Vols are 4-2 in the Battle 4 Atlantis, and earned a third-place finish in 2017. Tennessee beat then-No. 18 Purdue, lost to No. 5 Villanova and beat NC State.

The Vols face Maryland on Dec. 11 in Hall of Fame Invitational at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York before facing Arizona on the back half of a home-and-home set on Dec. 17 in Tucson.

UT hosts Texas on Jan. 28, 2023, in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. UT lost 52-51 at Texas in January 2022. It is 4-0 in home games in the Challenge.

Tennessee will also compete in a yet-to-be-finalized exhibition game prior to the regular-season opener.
