A Plainwell woman is calling 522 gifts donated by the community a Christmas cheer blessing, because 400 kids wouldn't have received any presents if it weren't for the donations.

Every year the Kalamazoo Deacons Conference helps make sure kids wake up to presents under their tree, but Joy Livingston said the agency was preparing to tell 400 kids they wouldn't be able to provide presents in 2019. When Livingston heard the news she told the agency to hold off from making those phone calls, allowing her time to reach out to the community for help.

With a simple post on social media, Livingston said gifts began filling her couch and then an entire bedroom. Livingston said 75 people donated from Plainwell, Otsego, Cooper Township and Alamo Township areas.

Livingston said it's a wonderful reminder of how blessed they are to have an entire community by their side.

"A community that probably struggles a little bit but dropped everything to provide for each other," said Livingston.

All of the toys were loaded up and dropped off at the Deacons Conference.
