The Washington Township Board of Supervisors made a few personnel moves at the Dec. 7 meeting, shaping the layout for 2021.

According to township manager Jeff Geesaman, Chad Reichard was hired as the township’s assistant planner and zoning officer.

“It was a little crazy,” Reichard said. “I resigned at the beginning of the meeting from my position as a township supervisor and was hired to my current position about 45 minutes later.

In his new role, “I will be assisting the zoning officer, reviewing plans and working with the planning committee,” he said.

“It’s sort of a catch-all, but it’s all about working with the townships and making sure that everything is in order. Washington Township is where I was born and raised. It’s really great to be able to work and serve the community where you live. This is a great opportunity for advancement within the township to continue to make this a good place to live and do business.”

Scott Stine of Zullinger was appointed to take Reichard’s place on the township board.

“He was appointed to fill the last part of my term,” Reichard said, adding that Stine would have to run for election to his own six-year term in the May primary.

Stine’s move created a vacancy on the zoning hearing board. That vacancy was filled by Danny Sheffler at the Jan. 4 reorganization meeting.

“He will be a great addition to the zoning hearing board,” Reichard said.

Stewart McCleaf, vice chairman, served out the remaining two meetings of 2020 as acting chairman in Reichard’s place. Charlie Strausbaugh now is to serve as chairman. McCleaf will remain as vice chairman.
