Atlantic, Dwyer, Glades Central host 1st-round tri-county playoff games

Glades Central and Park Vista lined up to play football on Nov. 21 and this week both schools will be competing in the first tri-county high school football playoffs.

Three Palm Beach County teams will host Gold Bracket quarterfinal games this week in the first tri-county high school football playoffs.

The playoffs include public school teams from Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties that were ineligible for Florida High School Athletic Association postseason play. Public schools in all three counties had to delay the start of the season until late October because of COVID-19 restrictions.

A six-person panel, including Phillip Suitts of The Palm Beach Post, ranked the top 16 teams in the Class 8A, 7A and 1A-6A divisions. The quarterfinal games in the Gold and Silver brackets were based on those rankings.

In Class 8A, Jupiter (4-0) and Park Vista (3-1) made the Gold Bracket, but both will have to go on the road as the lower seeds. No. 6 Jupiter faces No. 3 Deerfield Beach and No. 7 Park Vista plays Davie-Western.

In Class 7A, top-seeded Atlantic (2-1) will host No. 8 North Miami and No. 3 Dwyer (4-0) will face No. 6 Seminole Ridge (1-1). Both games will be at 6 p.m. Friday.

In Classes 1A-6A, No. 3 Glades Central (4-0) will host No. 6 Miami-Booker T. Washington at 6 p.m. Friday. No. 7 Pahokee (2-2) will visit No. 2 Fort Lauderdale-Dillard.

Seven county teams also qualified for the Silver Bracket, for teams ranked ninth through 16th in their respective divisions.

In Class 8A, Wellington (2-2) visits Palm Beach Gardens (2-2) and Boca Raton (3-1) hosts Coral Springs. In Class 7A, Royal Palm Beach (1-3) is at home and Olympic Heights (1-3) is on the road. In Classes 1A-6A, Boynton Beach (3-1) and Suncoast (2-2) are on the road.

Higher-seeded quarterfinal winners will host semifinal games the weekend of Dec. 11.

Championship games are scheduled for Dec. 21-22 at a site to be determined.

Teams that lose in the quarterfinal round will advance to a consolation bracket.
