The Lehigh Valley’s last Sears Appliance & Hardware store and one of less than a dozen locations remaining nationwide will soon close in Northampton County.

The appliance and hardware chain’s location at 3762 Easton-Nazareth Highway in Lower Nazareth Township began a liquidation sale in late April and will hold its last day of business June 21, according to a store employee.

The store first announced the upcoming closure in an April 26 post on the business’ Facebook page.

“It is with great sadness to inform you that our local Sears Appliance & Hardware store will be closing our doors forever,” the post reads. “… We will be offering large discounts on all items, and hope you will come and take advantage of the savings. We sincerely thank you for being our loyal customers!”

A spin-off of legendary retailer Sears, the Illinois-based appliance and hardware chain carries hand and power tools, home appliances, lawn and garden equipment and more.

Customers visiting the Lower Nazareth store, in the Northampton Crossings shopping center between Staples and Mattress Firm, over the next several weeks will encounter many items discounted between 30 and 60 percent off their original prices. Some items are discounted even further.

After a few weeks of the sale, some of the store’s shelves are bare, but a sampling of remaining inventory includes car batteries, generators, light bulbs, snow blowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, grills, treadmills, vacuums and large appliances such as stoves, refrigerators and washers and dryers.

The Lower Nazareth store is one of 11 locations remaining in eight states, according to Sears Appliance & Hardware’s website.

The only other Pennsylvania store in Norristown, Montgomery County, also announced its upcoming closure via an April 26 Facebook post.

In recent years, other area Sears Appliance & Hardware stores have closed in Quakertown and Trexlertown.

Sears Appliance & Hardware is owned by Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc., which spun off from Sears Holdings Corp. in 2012.

Sears Holdings, parent of the Sears and Kmart retail chains, in October filed for bankruptcy protection.

Messages seeking a comment from Sears Hometown were not returned.
