JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — A former secretary at a suburban Chicago high school has been charged with stealing more than $30,000 from an athletic club at the school.

In a news release, the Will County Sheriff’s office says 51-year-old Melissa A. McGrath was arrested Friday on felony counts of identity theft, forgery, and theft by deception at her home in the Will County community of Manhattan.

McGrath is accused of stealing money from the club at Lincoln Way Central High School in New Lenox. The department launched its investigation after school administrators discovered McGrath was operating two sets of financial books. Investigators determined her scheme involved submitting reports with forged signatures to athletic club members.

McGrath didn’t answer a call made to her home. It was not immediately clear if she has an attorney.
