Springfield's Dayron Johnson, CPA's Caroline Betts named #TNPreps Athletes of Week

Springfield wide receiver Dayron Johnson and Christ Presbyterian Academy soccer player Caroline Betts have been named the #TNPreps boys and girls athletes of the week for Sept. 3-8.

Johnson, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound senior, finished with 189 yards receiving in last week’s 21-9 win over Station Camp, including a 51-yard, second-quarter touchdown reception.

Johnson, who has hauled in 18 receptions for 414 yards and four touchdowns on the year, won with 1,071 votes, which was 44.96 percent of the 2,382 votes cast.

Giles County quarterback Bryce Wallace finished second in voting with 29.22 percent (696 votes) after throwing for 472 yards, running for 93 yards and scoring five total touchdowns in a 38-34 win over Lincoln County.

Betts, a freshman forward, recorded a pair of hat tricks in wins over Webb School (9-0) and Ezell-Harding (7-0). Betts, who notched her sixth consecutive hat trick in Monday’s 3-0 win over Ensworth, has tallied 25 goals in nine games for the unbeaten Lady Lions.
