Ada Bernice Hyland

Ada Bernice Hyland, 101, Pequot Lakes, MN, died Sunday, January 5th, 2020 at Senior Class Care in Pequot Lakes. Ada’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, January 25th at St. Alice Catholic Church in Pequot Lakes, with Fr. Mike Patullo as the celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the mass. Burial will take place at 11 AM, Monday, January 27th at Dawn Valley Memorial Park on Bush Lake Road in Bloomington.

Ada Ellenberg was born on May 23, 1918 in Perham, MN, daughter of Herman and Martha (Fiedler) Ellenberg. She grew up and received her education at Perham and moved to Minneapolis, where she did modeling and sang on the radio with her sister. She was united in marriage with Donald Ambrose Hyland on September 13, 1941 in Minneapolis. They made their home in Richfield and were co-owners of a Tom Thumb Convenience Store. Following Don’s retirement, they moved to Whitefish Lake in 1975 and later moved to Breezy Point.

Ada loved to cook and bake, especially cookies and pies. She and Don played Bridge, golfed and loved to play Bingo. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her Catholic Faith was very important to her. Her husband, the love of her life, were married 75 ½ years. Don died on April 17, 2017.

Ada will be greatly missed by her children: Ronald (Sue) of Bradenton, FL, Timothy (Roddy) of Green Valley, AZ, Cynthia (Bill) Rassmussen of Breezy Point, and Annette (Tony) Veschio of Champlin; eighteen grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: Herman and Martha Ellenberg; her husband: Don; son: Don; and a sister, Doris Becken.
