Lucas Schumacher is one of four Linton/Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock athletes named all-state in North Dakota high school 9-man football this season.

Voted on by the state's coaches, the 9-man honorees were announced Sunday and the Class A honorees were announced Monday. The Class AA and AAA all-state football teams are scheduled to be released on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at 7 p.m.

Schumacher passed for 100 yards, ran for 123 more, accounted for three touchdowns and intercepted two passes on defense in Linton/HMB's 32-24 victory over Cavalier in the state 9-man championship game held at the Fargodome on Nov. 13.

A University of Jamestown men's basketball recruit, Schumacher was selected first-team all-state at quarterback and also earned 9-man senior athlete of the year honors. Teammate Trey Jacob, who broke Linton's single-season rushing record this fall, was also named to the first team.

Area 9-man first-team selections included LaMoure/Litchville-Marion's Brett Wendel (running back) and Colton Ness (tight end), Griggs County-Midkota's Hunter Gronneberg (linebacker) and Kidder County's Jonah Harter (defensive back).

Quarterback Garret Meehl and defensive lineman Ashton Biesterfeld were both selected first-team all-state in Class A from Oakes.

The Tornadoes were forced to forfeit a state quarterfinal playoff game to eventual state champion Langdon/Edmore/Munich due to COVID-19, finishing 7-1 overall.

Lisbon reached the Class A title game but came up short to the Cardinals, 42-28. The Broncos' Hunter Schultz (quarterback), Caleb Olson (offensive lineman) and Jordan Sours (running back) were also selected first-team all-state.
