Odds are at some point in your life, you’re going to experience a five-ish year period where you’re getting invited to a bachelor or bachelorette party seemingly every few months. It’s going to be a Groundhog Day-esque scenario where every morning you wake up at your local airport waiting at the gate to fly to Nashville, Miami, or Las Vegas. You vow that when it’s your turn to invite your friends away for the weekend, you’re going to blow their mind by inviting them somewhere they’ve never been before. But where?

Here’s eight options of cities to host your bachelor or bachelorette party that aren’t the same old go-tos, but will give your group a great experience.

Portland, Maine

I imagine when you think of party destinations, your mind doesn’t immediately go to Portland, Maine. But that’s not to say it’s not a great destination for your bachelor or bachelorette party. Not only is Portland home to an impressive nightlife scene, it also offers opportunities to relax on the beach, take a wine tour, or battle the elements while whitewater rafting. Who needs Penn and Teller when you have one of the world’s oldest municipal pipe organs?

Tannersville, Pa.

Located in an area of Pennsylvania colloquially known as “the Poconos” Tannersville is a great destination for bachelor and bachelorette parties looking to ball out on a budget. A ski town by winter and an outdoor adventure town by summer, it’s a great option for those hoping for a spacious condo versus packing into a tiny hotel room.

It’s not hard to find lodging with outdoor space in Tannersville, making barbecuing not only a potential fun group activity, but also a nice cost-cutting measure. Book a couple of excursions like ziplining or a brewery tour, and you’re well on your way to a great party.

Gulf Shores, Ala.

You’ve heard of Mr. 3-0-5, but have you heard of Mr. 2-5-1? You probably haven’t, because I made him up. But that’s not because he doesn’t deserve to exist. Gulf Shores is widely considered to be among the nicest beaches in Alabama and is accommodating to bachelor and bachelorette parties of any size or attitude. Looking to just relax and hang out the beach? That’s an option. Looking to day-drink and crush the groom-to-be at mini-golf? No sweat. Looking to finally face your fear of heights and take that helicopter tour you’ve always talked about taking? Face your fears in Gulf Shores, Ala.

San Juan Islands, Wash.

If you want to see tigers at your bachelor or bachelorette party, you’re going to have to go to Vegas. But if you’re in the market to see orcas, book your Airbnb now for San Juan Islands. If, by some reason, seeing wild orcas isn’t your thing, other options for activities include kayaking, hiking, and island bike tours. Partnered with a robust restaurant scene and respectable nightlife options, the San Juan Islands are a great place to celebrate the end of your single life.

Lake Geneva, Wis.

I wouldn’t blame you if it never crossed your mind to host your bachelor or bachelorette party in Wisconsin—but I’m here to tell you why it should. Lake Geneva is a gorgeous town situated on, you guessed it, Lake Geneva, that has become a must-see midwest tourist destination. Home to a Michelin star restaurant, entertainment options in Lake Geneva include boating, a collection of ice castles, and the Tristan Crist Magic Theater.

Boulder, Colo.

Easily the best known city on this list, its inclusion is here to serve as a reminder that well-known places are well-known for a reason: They’re fun! Boulder is a great option if you’re looking to go camping, glamping, or anything in between. Boulder is a jack-of-all-trades city, offering entertainment options that include outdoor fun, scenic drives, and a whole lot of breweries. Just make sure you have a designated driver if you decide to combine those last two activities.

Roswell, N.M

Following an alleged UFO incident in 1947, Roswell, N.M. became widely considered the alien capital of the United States. Not often included in lists like this, Roswell is a great off-the-beaten path destination for an off-the-beaten-path bachelor or bachelorette party. Activities include the International UFO Museum and Research Center, the Roswell UFO Spacewalk, and some good ol’ fashion alien-themed laser tag.

Cooperstown, N.Y.
